A Brief Lodge History

Lodge Dolphin, Number 911 was granted a charter by the Grand Lodge of Scotland on the 8th December 1900. The Lodge was
consecrated by the Provincial Grand Lodge of Stirlingshire on 22nd December 1900 when Brother Alexander Mitchell was installed
as the first Master. Meetings of the Lodge took place in the Co-operative Hall, Bonnybridge at this time. A celebration dinner was held
in the local Royal Hotel. Mr William Brown became the first initiate at a meeting held on 14th February 1901, eight other initiates also
joined the Lodge that evening.

The Lodge flourished, even through the dark years of the Great War (1914-18), and attendances quickly outgrew the capacity of the
premises. A fund was therefore set up with a view to building a bespoke Masonic Temple. Members rallied to this cause which
culminated in one final magnificent effort on 14th and 15th December 1923. A Grand Bazaar was held over two days which swelled the
Lodge funds to £2500.00. This was sufficient to erect the premises which the Lodge occupies to this day at 53 Wellpark Terrace,
Bonnybridge. The building was consecrated on 4th October 1924 when Doctor John Pearson was Master.

Like most Lodges, Lodge Dolphin has endured through good times and bad times. It has however survived through the dedication and
hard work of successive office-bearers over the years. Indeed it went on to celebrate its Centenary on 2nd December 2000.
Lodge Dolphin now looks forward to a new century and a new millennium with hope and vigour.
